The Network of Social Democracy in Asia (SocDem Asia), the network of social democratic and progressive political parties in Asia expresses its support for the democratic processes of Myanmar. We recognize the results of the last November 8 elections that prove the overwhelming support of the people of Myanmar for the democratization process in the country.
We condemn any effort to subvert the popular will. We stand with the people of Myanmar in protecting and safeguarding the democratic institutions in the country and commit to further expanding the democratic reforms towards full civilian control of government.
The people of Myanmar have decided that their country’s path forward is through a peaceful and democratic approach. It is time that those opposed to democracy must respect the people’s will.
